Víctor Rodríguez – WordPress Credits

When I selected the WordPress Polyglots Team for my WordPress Credits project, my original goal was to contribute at least 100 translation suggestions. I decided to focus on WooCommerce because it is an important WordPress plugin used for creating and managing online stores.

Throughout the project, I completed several translation sessions using GlotPress. According to the activity displayed on my WordPress.org profile, I submitted a total of 386 suggested strings across three main contribution dates:

• 48 strings suggested on July 6.
• 219 strings suggested on July 11.
• 119 strings suggested on July 25.

Reaching 386 suggestions allowed me to exceed my original goal. However, the most important result was not only the number of strings. The project also helped me understand the responsibilities involved in contributing to an open-source platform.

During the process, I learned to check the Spanish (Costa Rica) glossary, analyze the context of each string, maintain consistent terminology, and avoid changing technical elements such as placeholders or HTML code. I also became familiar with the different GlotPress statuses and the importance of the review process.

Some strings were simple, while others required more time because they included technical language or did not provide enough context. In those cases, I had to compare similar translations, review the glossary, and think about how the message would appear to a WooCommerce user.

Another important part of the project was documenting my progress through my personal WordPress website. Writing reflection posts helped me review what I had done, identify challenges, and recognize how my understanding of WordPress changed during the program.

I also interacted with the WordPress community through Slack and participated in an online event about WordPress and artificial intelligence. These activities helped me see that WordPress is more than a website-building platform. It is also a global community where developers, translators, designers, organizers, and users contribute in different ways.

I am satisfied with the progress I made because I exceeded the initial translation goal and gained practical experience using WordPress community tools. This project showed me that individual contributions, even small ones, can support a platform used by people around the world.
